Eastern Area Racing

Like other areas, ITCA East hosts a number of  one-day racing events each year, which we call Topper Travellers and one two-day Eastern Championship.  In recent years, we have run both a winter and summer Travellers at a range of lake, river and tidal venues.  Traveller events are ideal to encourage sailors to move beyond racing at just their own club level, and provide the opportunity to race in a larger fleet of Toppers than is the norm at many of our local clubs.

The Travellers are open events hosted for us by the clubs, so they run to the host's usual sailing programme and course, dependent on numbers and conditions.  There will be a sailors' briefing beforehand. We normally aim for 4 races on the day, with racing starting around 10.30am (depending on tides etc). You can enter online, for a fee of about £12-20, in advance, on our ITCA events pages to help the clubs plan for rescue cover.

Our Travellers offer sailors of all levels and experience the chance to compete against some of the best sailors in the region, including those in the ITCA Teams and  RYA Regional Training Groups.  We welcome both 5.3 and 4.2 Topper sailors and you will be sure of a great racing experience.  Its also a chance to meet other Topper sailors of your age from across the region, and hopefully make new friends too!

We are now in the process of putting together dates for the coming year and these will be published here as they get confirmed.  So please do let us know if your club would like to be considered to host one of these events in the future. If you need any information in the meantime, do not hesitate to contact us.

Please go to the main ITCA events pages to find out more about our events and to book or register your interest in attending.

Or find us on Facebook at "East Area Toppers - ITCA East".

The ITCA East Region Season Dates are Changing

Why?

The natural start to the Traveller season is after the summer when novice sailors have honed their skills and are ready to tackle the challenge of competitive racing. This is evident from the increased attendance at Ely and Hickling 2024.

Currently, competitors need to pay for two years of membership to complete a series. Under the new arrangement, one membership year will coincide with one traveller series. The Eastern Regional Championships will now follow the traveller series finale, serving as an escalation from the series. The Worlds and the Nationals will follow the Eastern Regional Championships, marking the high point of the season and a logical end to a Topper campaign for those wishing to advance into other classes.

What Does This Mean?

  • From now on, the Traveller series will run from September to June.
  • The 2024 Series consists of the following events:
