ITCA (GBR) 4.2 National Squad
The ITCA (GBR) Topper 4.2 National Squad has been created to promote the Topper 4.2 as a separate class to the Topper with the 5.3 sail and as the clear choice for younger or smaller sailors.
The 4.2 rig is ideally suited to sailors in the weight range of 35–45 kg who often struggle on with the full 5.3 sail or reef, neither of which is ideal for improving sailing skills. The 4.2 is a much better balanced boat for these sailors and by promoting competition in this class sailors can gain skills in a boat they are much better suited to.
The Squad of some 18 sailors will enjoy four weekends of training, some of them residential, under the direction of Head Coach Dave Cockerill. It is anticipated that squad members will typically be aged 11-13 and in the weight range of approximately 35-45 kg.
Topper 4.2 National Squad members will be expected to commit to training and competing in a Topper 4.2 until July - that is to attend all four training weekends, to participate in three National Series events and a “stand-alone” Topper 4.2 National Championship.
