All Girls Coaching
It’s a great time to be a female sailor. The RYA and ITCA are working hard on your behalf to reward girls and boys equally for their success. By 2020 sailing at the Tokyo Olympics is expected to have equal medals for male and female athletes. As a hard working sailor you are a valuable asset to the RYA!
We also now have female Head Coaches leading the RYA UK National Squad, RYA UK National Intermediate Squad, ITCA Topper 4.2 National Squad and ITCA Topper Youth Squad. Females Rock!
The All Girls Programme contains many elements, but some of the key messages that we want to promote are:
- Making friends in the class – girls supporting girls;
- What is takes to be a World Class sailor;
- Being assertive on the race course (aka. Don’t be a pushover when racing).
Any female sailor from club racing level upwards is invited to attend All-Girls camps. So as long as you can complete a triangle course and have done some club racing, this camp is for you. You can sail either a 5.3 or 4.2 rig, whichever is most appropriate to your size. Sailors may be set into training groups for on the water exercises but for many elements of the camps sailors will work together across all abilities.
All camps will be an opportunity to be with other girls and will be taught by experienced female coaches.
The cost of each residential camp including food and accommodation will be £130. This is subsidised by ITCA and the RYA. Camps have a limited number of spaces, and will be allocated on a first come first served basis.
We are planning at least two residential camps in 2016/17. Our next residential camp will be at Rutland Sailing Club on 10/11 June:
We are also planning a one-day camp on Saturday 8th April at Datchet Water Sailing Club. The camp is targeting female sailors in the South East and East areas, but places may be offered to sailors from other areas if space is available.
